Sonic Speed AF
The Sonic Speed AF system in the DMC-FP3 has a maximum speed of approx. 0.33 second for auto focusing*. It includes numerous re-engineering enhancements, including a higher-speed actuator, optimized algorithms and parallel software processing. The result is fast and accurate AF performance. You can quickly get moving subjects in focus, such as when you're shooting sports scenes. * Using the 1-area AF, at the wide-end.

The DMC-FP3 can record motion images in high-definition (1,280 x 720 pixels at 30 fps in Motion JPEG format). The pixel mixed readout method enables bright motion-image recording even in low-light settings. The DMC-FP3 can also record full-size motion images in WVGA (848 x 480 pixels at 30 fps) or standard motion images in VGA (640 x 480 pixels at 30 fps) and QVGA (320 x 240 pixels at 30 fps).

I own both a Canon 780IS and a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP3.

Lumix Pro's: photo quality; intuitive controls; clean retro rectangular design; touch screen commands

Lumix Con's: video quality clearly inferior to Canon 780IS; rectangular shape is retro cool but not ergonomic in the hand --- I found myself accidentally pressing buttons, covering the microphone hole, or with a finger on the edge of the photo, or fearing it would slip from my hand

I prefer the Canon 780IS. -- Canon 780IS is better

I love this camera. It is easy to use and very compact. I wish the video portion could record more than 8 minutes at a time. This is with an 8 gig memory card. But if I want serious video I will have to get a video recorder. -- Great Compact Camera

We've used this camera several times at this point. So far so good.

The only reason it hasn't gotten all 5 stars, is that I haven't figured out, or read the instructions, for all of the features yet. Yes, I know that is my fault.

Seems to be very easy to use, and takes good, clear pictures. Consumer Reports also rated this camera highly and a good value for the cost.

And I'm a complete amateur when it comes to picture taking. -- I picked a good one.

I bought this camera because my Sony Cybershot did not perform too well in dark places (night clubs, bowling, at night etc). The Lumix is has a fantastic low light mode that takes incredible pictures. The other great features include a large and bright touch screen, great zoom, clean 14.1 MP photos, and easy to navigate menus. All this in a stylish compact design. If you are looking for a compact camera, you cannot go wrong with the Lumix DMC-FP3. -- The Lumix DMC-FP3 is Great at What it Does
